My name is Ian DuVernay and I am a staff reporter for North Pointe. I am from a small town in Vermont but have spent my recent years living here in Michigan. My journey as an artist started about 2 years back. Ive always had a knack for it but never truly dove in until then. I began to take photographs on my phone but I was never content with that, I knew I could do much better. I borrowed an old DSLR camera from a relative and began to shoot everything I could possibly find. I never could imagine that i'd be able to take the type of photos that I am able to now, and especially be able to travel because of it. I have a very big interest in Soccer, I never played it growing up but I watch it just about everyday. I also enjoy helping around the school and community in any way possible. I absolutely love music I don't think I could ever live without it. I spend a lot of time to myself but whenever I have music to listen to it always feels like I have company. I have a big passion for traveling and ultimately my goal is to travel the world one day. Until then I hope to share my work with the world.

In my short time enrolled in journalism at Grosse Pointe North High School. Saying I have learned a lot, is a large understatement. This class has let me broaden my horizons not only as a photographer and editor but as a writer as well. Before coming to this class I had all of the skills but I was nervous to use them and wasn't sure how to flourish them to the best of my ability. This class has taught me to write thoroughly and precisely, to curate edits and correct my writing properly. Even though it isn't a direct translation to my future art field, it goes beyond the surface level. Being able to properly gather my thoughts and be able to write them to the best of my ability. Thinking one thing in my head and being able to put words to that specific thought, this is something that I've tried to do time and time again but I never properly learned until now. This is undoubtedly the greatest skill I've obtained in this class over the last year, and I can't wait to continue to use it in my future in the arts.
In between Conducting photoshoots myself, helping others with theirs or editing photos, I usually cant ever keep my hands off of a camera. I shoot with a Sony alpha mirrorless camera and my favorite lens is my 70-200mm
I love to capture everything that is even somewhat appealing to me. I being this camera with me everywhere so that I never miss out on an opportunity to take photos, just incase the occasion arises.
As a photographer I constantly question the way things are but currently I have been reviewing my philosophy as an artist by attempting to do something. Finding beauty in conventional popular things and consequently finding beauty in the uncommonly less popular unconventional things, what truly is visually appealing to people and why does it stand out in a crowd? Sometimes I ask myself what even makes the popular things popular? Are they truly worth the praise? Or do we as humans just care too much about what other people say and think?
